STEPHENS PROMOTIONS 2008 RULES

FOR WILLIAMSON CO. DEMO DERBY

 

Please note changes to the 2008 rules.  Please read carefully.  All rules will need to be followed or you will not run.  If you are not sure of the rules, call 618-922-0660 or (618) 996-3170

 

  1. Stephens Promotions has the right to refuse any entry and spectator admittance.
  2. No reinforcements allowed other than specified below.  Any metal added to reinforce the car is illegal.
  3. All persons must sign an insurance waver, release form, and purchase pit passes BEFORE entering the pit area.
  4. THERE IS NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED IN THE PITS.  This includes pit crew.  If you or any of your crew is caught with alcohol you will be DISQUALIFIED.
  5. Winning car may be re-inspected after any race.  Cars found to be illegal will be disqualified.  Judges decision is FINAL.
  6. NO hot-roding in the pits.  Keep it at an idle.
  7. NO hitting the driver’s door, but no using the driver’s door as a shield.  If the hit is deemed by an official to be intentional, you will be disqualified.  This will be at the judge’s discretion.
  8. Sandbagging is not tolerated and will be strictly enforced.  Locking up the brakes prior to a hit, other than the driver’s door, will be cause for disqualification.  The fans pay to see a show, put one on for them!
  9. You must make AGGRESSIVE contact every 60 seconds.
  10. All drivers must be 18 years or older.  Persons under 18 must have parents or guardian sign waivers and release forms.

 

RACING REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. All drivers must wear protective helmets, eye protection, long pants and shirt.
  2. All drivers must attend the driver’s meeting prior to the derby.
  3. All cars must be removed from the derby site by 12 noon the following day unless otherwise stated at the driver’s meeting.

 

AUTOMOBILE BODY REGULATIONS

 

  1. Passenger cars or station wagons only.  No trucks, jeeps, hearses or limousines.  No Imperials permitted.
  2. All glass, side windows, rear windows, headlights and taillights must be removed before entering the pit area.
  3. Rear seat of sedan must be removed, top and bottom.  On station wagons all seats and decking must be removed.  Station wagons must be emptied to the floorboards.  All cars must be swept clean.
  4. Cars must have a working seatbelt and working brakes.
  5. A minimum of one bar, chain, or wire running from the outside (top) of the roof down to the cowl on the front window is mandatory for safety reasons.
  6. Battery must be moved, but must be securely fastened and covered in the passenger compartment.
  7. Radiator must be in stock position.  NO RESERVE TANKS.
  8. Fenders may be bolted together with 3/8 inch or smaller bolts and washers only.  A maximum of 10 bolts per fender.
  9. All doors may be welded, chained, or wired.  Straps should not be larger than ¼ inch thick or four (4) inches wide.
  10. All body seams may be welded, no metal may be added.  Body cannot be welded to the frame anywhere, but front inner fenders may have a two (2) inch weld then skip two (2) inches and repeat weld.  NO OTHER BODY WELDS.
  11. No doubling of body panels allowed, no added metal allowed.
  12. Old model Lincolns unibody cars seams may be welded, you must follow rule #10 for inner fender rules.

 

CAGE AND HALO BARS

 

  1. All doors may be welded and reinforced.  You should have a 4 point cage max.  Box style top cage as interrupted, one bar behind front seat, and one bar across dash area no further than stock style dash, one bar at each side extending no further than 10 inches rearward of front post on four-door models and 8 inches on two-door models.  NO KICKERS FRONT OR REAR, NO HUMP SAVERS, NO EXTERIOR PLATING OR TUBING.
  2. Halo bars are allowed; you may run a halo style bar in roof area.

 

HOODS AND TRUNKS

 

  1. Hoods must have 2 holes, at least 4 inches in diameter on each side of carburetor.  NOT directly on top of the carburetor.
  2. On all cars, hoods, trunks, and tailgates maybe secured with the following method:
    • On front of car, two pieces of 1 inch all thread with a washer no larger than 6 inches OD and 3/8 inches thick.  All threads must be mounted outboard of the radiator.  In addition to all threads, 6 one-inch OD bolts with a washer no larger than 6 inches OD and 3/8 inches thick, or you may use angle iron back to back with a bolt through it.  Angle iron cannot be longer than 6 inches, 3 on each side for a total of 6, or a total of 6 bolts holding down the hood and any amount of wire or cable.  All wire or cable must be mounted outboard of the radiator. A maxium of 50 bolts, 3/8 inch or smaller, are allowed to bolt together the hood seams.
    • On the deck lid of the car, 2 pieces of 1 inch all thread with a washer no larger than 6 inches OD and 3/8 inch thick.  All threads may be mounted anywhere on deck lid.  In addition to all threads, you may weld solid or 6 1-inch OD bolts with a washer no larger than 6 inches OD and 3/8 inches thick and any amount of wire or cable.
    • On station wagons, two pieces of 1 inch all thread with a washer no larger than 6 inches OD and 3/8 inches thick.  All threads may be used in the rear through roof and stock body mount replacing the existing bolt.  In addition to all threads you may weld tailgates solid or 6 1-inch OD bolts with a washer no larger than 6 inches OD and 3/8 inches thick and any amount of wire or cable.
    • All other body mount bolts may be replaced with 1-inch OD bolts with a washer no larger than 6 inches OD and 3/8 inches thick.  Body mounts bolts inside passenger compartment that are close together may have 1 washer 6 by 12 inches, and must have 2 or more body mount bolts through the washer.  You may add 2 additional body mount bolts per side inside the passenger compartment.  All rubber biscuits may be removed.  All all-threads must have a nut on top and bottom with no welds.
  3. Two rear window bars are allowed.  The bars must be fastened to the roof and rear widow cowl (area between bottom of rear window and trunk lid) and  no thicker than ¼ inch and 2 inch wide strap.  This strap cannot be fastened to the trunk lid, but can be either welded or bolted.     

 

FRAME

 

1.      All body seams may be welded.  No metal may be added.  Body cannot be welded to the frame ANYWHERE.

2.      All top frame seams may be re-welded only but no extra metal may be added.

3.      No other frame welding is allowed, no plating, stuffing, heat treating, or foam filling of frames is allowed.

4.      If changing front stub, cut 3 inches behind the first cross member hole.  When replacing, you may overlap 2 ½ inches so both sides can be welded but no adding extra metal.

5.      If re-stubbing one side of the frame, you are allowed to cut and fit the new frame flush and weld one pass all the way around (butt-fit-weld).

 

GAS TANKS

 

  1. Stock gas tanks must be removed and replaced with marine gas tank mounted securely behind the driver.  All tanks must be covered and have a secure cap.
  2. Electric fuel pumps are permitted but must have a shut-off within the driver’s reach.
  3. NO MORE THAN 6 GALLONS OF GAS IN THE TANK.

 

SHOCKS

 

  1. Any OEM shock canister may be bolted or welded to any car.

 

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

 

  1. Any engine or transmission may be used in any car, but must be mounted in a stock position.
  2. Transmission oil coolers and engine oil coolers are permitted but must be securely mounted.

 

REAR END

 

  1. Any automobile rear end (NO TRUCK OR FLOATER REAR ENDS) can be used in any car.
  2. On models originally equipped with leaf springs, stock leaf springs and hangers must be used.  1980’s and newer cars may be leafed but must be OEM style shackles and perches.
  3. Any drive shaft or U joint may be used.  Welding of drive shaft is permitted.
  4. No extra metal may be added to any bracket that shows reinforcement will be permitted.
  5. Rear shackles must move and cannot be welded solid.

 

TIRES

 

  1. Only 16 inch or smaller tires and wheels will be allowed.  NO SPLIT RIMS ALLOWED.
  2. Valve stem protectors, liquid in tires, studs or screws in rims to hold the tires in place are permitted.

 

FOUR CYLINDER RULES

 

In addition to the above rules:

1.      Must be powered by four-cylinder engine.

2.      Wheelbase must be 108 inches or less.

3.      No four-wheel drive vehicles.

4.      All four-cylinder cars must have a roll cage, four-point minimum.

5.      Must have working brakes and seat belts.

6.      Stock gas tank must be removed and replaced with marine boat tank, all tanks must have a  secure cap and covered with a rubber cover.  Electric fuel pumps are permitted but must have a shut-off within the reach of the driver.  NO MORE THAN 6 GALLONS OF GAS IN THE TANK.
